Edward K. Welch II comes to Hoffmann & Baron after 20 years as the principal of IP&L Solutions of Naples, FL, a specialty firm providing all facets of Intellectual Property procurement, management and licensing services as well as related business consultation services across a broad spectrum of technologies and market segments.He has broad expertise in materials processing methods and apparatus; adhesives, sealants and coating compositions and dispensing apparatus; specialty chemicals and polymers; textile treatments; medical devices and surgical adhesives; composite materials and processing; microencapsulation technology; cosmetic and health and beauty aid active agents and products; skin treatment compositions and methods; and the like.Prior to engaging in private practice full time, he spent 20 years in corporate practice, most recently serving as Vice-President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of AgION Technologies, Inc. (now Sciessent, LLC), a start-up antimicrobial and textile treatment specialty chemicals company in Beverly, MA.Prior to that he had served as Assistant General Counsel of the former Witco Corporation of Greenwich, CT, as well as Chief Patent Counsel of Loctite Corporation (Hartford, CT) and, prior to that, of Enron Chemical Company (Rolling Meadows, IL). He began his law career with the Plastics Business Group of General Electric Company in Pittsfield, MA.

Extensive expertise and experience in all facets of national and international patent and trademark procurement, management and strategy; M&A IP Due Diligence and technology/product acquisition/divestiture transactions and assessment; facilitation and execution of start-up IP development and strategy and rejuvenation/revitalization of aging and waning in-house IP programs; IP related transactions such as licensing, technology/-product development and/or sponsored research agreements, and non-disclosure and related agreements; novelty, patentability, infringement and validity searching, assessment and opinions.
